Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s office has deputed senior officer Hemant Sharma and DG (Fire Service) Balwant Singh to the site to supervise and support rescue operations in Bahanaga train accident.
“Teams have left for the spot for search and rescue operation,” officials said, adding the Balasore Collector has been directed to reach the spot to make all necessary arrangements and intimate concerned officials if any additional help is required from the state level.

Several videos of the purported incident showed locals climbing atop the derailed bogies in an attempt to rescue trapped passengers. Some witnesses claimed that no ambulance or rescue personnel had arrived even an hour after the accident took place.
Five ambulances have now reached the spot and 10 injured passengers have been taken to a nearby hospital. Officials said a lack of light at the accident site is hampering rescue efforts.
The Southern Railway has issued an emergency helpline number: 6782262286
