The two new franchises of the Indian Premier League will square off against each other in match 51 of the ongoing mega-league. It’s Gujarat Titans versus Lucknow Super Giants at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad. With the league table undergoing a thorough shuffling it would be interesting to see who emerges victorious in this encounter. A win for GT will strengthen the chances of playing Qualifier 1 while if LSG wins they will get closer to the table-toppers.
Team Preview (Lucknow Super Giants): After a chaotic encounter with Royal Challengers Bangalore LSG had to share points with CSK after rain played spoilsport in their latest assignment. But the big news for them is that KL Rahul has been injured and will miss the remainder of the IPL. Karun Nair has been roped in as the replacement for the Karnataka batter. LSG started off the season quite well but has been stumbling midway through the tournament.
Currently they are placed second in the points table with 11 points in their pocket. They have won five games and lost four of them. The overseas players- Kyle Mayers Marcus Stoinis Nicholas Pooran and Naveen-ul-Haq have been terrific for the franchise and this has led Quinton de Kock to warm the bench. The local players need to step up more with the bat in hand while Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra have done decent with the cork in the palm.
Team Preview (Gujarat Titans): The Titans are soaring high with every match and are crowned at the top of the points table. With 14 points from ten matches they have managed to win seven games and lose just three of them. The Hardik Pandya-led unit has the best win-to-loss ratio so far in the tournament. They have been very dominant and have suffered defeats at the hands of Rajasthan Royals Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals.
GT is coming fresh after steamrolling the finalist of the last year- Rajasthan Royals and will be a force to reckon with in this contest as well. The Afghan spin duo of Noor Ahmad and Rashid Khan has been splendid for them while Mohammed Shami has offered early wickets with the new ball in hand. The batting has been very formidable with players stepping in whenever needed. The major update from the GT camp is that Joshua Little will fly back to the UK for the Bangladesh series and will be unavailable. We might see someone like Alzarri Joseph back in the GT playing XI.
Head-to-head: Out of the three matches played GT have dominated with 100% wins. LSG is yet to win an encounter against the Titans. What to expect: The last time a day game was played here Rinku Singh’s heroics saw KKR overhaul a 200-plus total. But that was nearly a month ago and the last game to be played here saw DC successfully defend 130. The wearing square could play a factor in how the teams stack up with a possible focus on slower bowlers a distinct possibility.
Pitch Report: The last game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals was a low-scoring encounter. Capitals managed to put a total of just 130 runs on the board in that game and the Titans failed to chase the same. This was the first time a team failed to score more than 150 runs at this venue.
