Another weekend another doubleheader and the second game of the evening will see Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lock horns against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium Lucknow. A day full of treats awaits us in the IPL as four teams participate in the glitterati league. Head to Head: Both teams once met each other in the last edition of IPL. It was LSG who emerged victorious on that occasion.
Team Preview (Punjab Kings): The Shikhar Dhawan-led unit has played four matches so far and has won two games. They have lost the remaining two games against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans respectively. Currently PBKS is positioned at the sixth position in the points table.
After winning the first two games Punjab Kings have lost two on a trot. Initially their batting didn’t succor Shikhar Dhawan against SRH and later on succumbed to a defeat. In their latest assignment against the Gujarat Titans they fell short marginally after Rahul Tewatia whacked a four in the penultimate ball of the match.
Dhawan has been the best positive in the batting for them. Prabhsimran Singh has been shily shelly while Jitesh Sharma hasn’t looked as good as he could be. Shahrukh Khan looked decent in the last game and was striking the ball nicely but couldn’t go long. The batting looks a bit worrisome for them.
Talk about the bowling department Kagiso Rabada came into the playing XI in the last game. Sam Curran and Arshdeep Singh have been goldust for them across phases. Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar have also done their job when it comes to operating with the ball in hand. Liam Livingstone had already arrived before their game against GT but wasn’t roped in. He could feature in the upcoming clash.
Team Preview (Lucknow Super Giants): Having played four matches LSG have won three matches and lost just a single game. It was the second game against Chennai Super Kings where they failed to go over the line and failed to narrow down the difference of 12 runs.
The KL Rahul-captained side is arriving on the back of two successive wins. Their latest one turned out to be a nailbiter where Nicholas Pooran stormed a 62 runs knock from 19 balls to lay the foundation for going past the finishing line.
Kyle Mayers has been topsy-turvy at the top of the order for them while KL Rahul has looked below par. Nicholas Pooran is the top run-getter for them while Krunal Pandya has been impressive in patches. From the bowling point of view Mark Wood and Avesh Khan have been spearheading the side but were out of action in the between. Amit Mishra has been acting as the impact sub and has done good work. Jaydev Unadkat is another such name who has contributed to the team in patches.
What to expect: Plenty of traffic restrictions in the city which clearly isn’t a favourite among the locals. But rest assured that plenty of them will be willing to maneuver their way around and make it to the stadium on a weekend. The game will be played on pitch #3 on the square and the boundaries behind the wicket are less than 55 meters long according to the curator.
Expect a lot of shuffles and scoops from the batters padding up at this end. Plenty of it was on display during LSG’s net session. It’s predicted to be a warm cloudy evening in Lucknow and if that forecast stays true the dew factor might not play a huge role. Both teams would still be looking to chase given the kind of victories they have had this season.
